View of the library
In the 1990s, after one of the former Customs offices was selected to house the Library, chairman of the board Benjamin Martin, a professional architect, designed the tall cherry bookcases, augmented with cabinets for archival materials. An old-fashioned rolling ladder, providing access to the upper shelves, is a conversation piece with Museum tour visitors. In 2017 the online catalogue was inaugurated through membership in the Small Libraries Program of Connecticut's Bibliomation network, freely accessible through the "Library" section of the Maritime Society website homepage. In 2018, its twentieth anniversary year, the Library held some 2700 volumes on maritime and naval topics, twelve archival collections, as well as prints, maps, charts, old postcards, and historic newspaper pages.
