About the New London Maritime Society, its Museum and Library
The New London Maritime Society was formed in the early 1980s to acquire the city's landmark Custom House as a maritime museum and venue for programs and events. The Frank L. McGuire Maritime Library in the museum was dedicated in 1998 and has grown to nearly 3000 volumes and a number of archival collections.
"Down to the Shore" is one in a series of online presentations created by the librarians to describe notable chapters of local history with images and text. They may be viewed at the "Library" section of the New London Maritime Society website, or directly by entering mcguirelibrary1998.omeka.net into your browser.
