Old Patent Office today

A recent view of the former Old Patent Office, now the resplendent home of two Smithsonian art museums. The building underwent major restoration and redesign between 2000 and 2007, culminating in Norman Foster's controversial glass canopy over the courtyard.  The ultra-modern canopy is invisible from the street, and the controversy subsided with the recognition that the courtyard is one of Washington's great indoor spaces.
