In the 1990s, after one of the former Customs offices was selected to house the Library, chairman of the board Benjamin Martin, a professional architect, designed the tall cherry bookcases, augmented with cabinets for archival materials.  An old-fashioned rolling ladder, providing access to the upper shelves, is a conversation piece with visitors.

In 2017 the online catalogue was inaugurated through membership in the Small Libraries Program of Connecticut's Bibliomation network. Our catalog is readily accessible to all Bibliomation libraries and is also included in the "FindIt" database that consolidates the cataloged holdings of most of the libraries in the State.

In 2018, its twentieth anniversary year, the McGuire Library held some 2700 volumes on maritime and naval topics, twelve archival collections, as well as prints, maps, charts, old postcards, and historic newspaper pages.
